Jennifer and I were in the studio last night working on “Breathlessly Waiting”… it was a bit rough at first, as Jennifer wrote a somewhat challenging part for herself, but eventually she kicked it into shape well. I was reminded last night why I work in Cubase rather than Pro Tools… it’s not that I don’t like Pro Tools, it’s just that I’ve been using Cubase so much lately that I can really move quickly, especially comping vocal tracks. In Pro Tools, I must think about every move I’m going to make before I make it.
I mic’d Jennifer with a C-414BULS rather than the usual Neuman TLM-103, and it worked well for this song. I think on other pieces I would have liked the 103 better, but the 414 worked out well. It’s the BULS, not the EB version I also have (with the VERY desirable CK-12 capsule). I like the EB version better on my vocals, though the TLM-103 is the best mic I’ve ever tried for my own vocals, including some pretty high rent mics. I also like the SM-7 when I’m doing more rock oriented stuff, as that has a nice grittiness to it.
I’ve been considering what my next project will be…. in the meantime, though, I’ve gotta release the “42 Shades of Gray” CD before it gets too stale.
Rick Escobar, one of the Inglistown band mates, is still working on the artwork for the Inglistown CD. Artwork is the only hold up to that CD. As usual, you can head over to my music page and listen.
Tonight, I’m actually doing some work… have the 17″ Macbook Pro heating up my lap (literally), connected to the little two drive ESATA RAID I use for video editing. So far the Macbook and RAID have been a dream… the only pain point is the 3 gb RAM limitation, but yea, I won’t cry you a river, it’s a nice setup.
