First there was this.
Now I see this.
There’s even THIS!!
My first question… why would ANYONE buy a guitar with someone’s name on it to begin with? What ever happened to doing your own thing? If I loved a guitar that had someone else’s signature on it, the signature goes!
Second question… spending $5k on a solid body electric guitar is CRAZY. Spending $17k or $25k on a guitar is INSANE… isn’t it? Why would anyone spend that kind of money in an electric guitar?? CRAZY.
Anyway… end rant… carry on.
I finished up 5 new mixes for Liquid State music, getting ever closer to a release date. I now have a target date to get it done in my head (though I’m not going to say it here), it is pretty aggressive. I would say we have maybe 7 songs that are either DONE or just need something VERY minor… and only one of the remaining songs needs something major. Time for me to get working…
It seems like it’s really happening now… two huge names are now free agents in the music world, and are releasing music themselves. What does this mean for the rest of us?
Well, of course, those of us without a following will still need a way to be “found.” Even though there are many many places to hear new music, record companies still are probably the best way to market new music to a mass audience who can’t be bothered to work too much to find it. However, for artists who have had some success, the field is wide open. I’m very glad to see Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails take this opportunity to test the waters. I know Prince tried the same thing a while back, but I suspect he was just a bit too early. Now the percentage of people with broadband is high enough that I think it just might work…
What is particularly interesting to me is Radiohead has taken an even riskier move… pricing is set by the purchaser. What a wild world we live in for the music listener.
